While Jim started his surveying career in 1976, upon graduating from Oregon Tech, he took a leave for 17 years, where he owned his own log trucking company, before returning to the field. Jim loves the mountains, having worked in Mount Vernon, Oregon and Telluride, Colorado before joining Duryea in Spokane.

Jim grew up in Eastern Oregon on a cattle ranch. He and his wife enjoy most outdoor activities such as boating, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, skiing, rafting, and shooting sports. Jim is also licensed as a commercial pilot with instrument rating and flight instructor certifications.

Mason & Dixon or Lewis & Clark?
I love the exploration that Lewis & Clark did but I think I would have to go with Mason & Dixon just because of the complexity and difficulty of the survey they performed to establish that line.

What is your favorite thing about the Duryea work environment?
I enjoy the people that I work with.

If you could travel back in time and be the first to survey a land mass, where would it be?
Let’s go way back in time, before the ice pack, and survey Antarctica.
