I love learning about the history and past life of an existing structure and piecing together all the available information to figure out how it was put together, what it’s been through in its lifetime, and how we can make it viable for the next generation.”
While Samantha started her AEC journey by majoring in mechanical engineering, it was an internship at DCI that changed her mind – and ultimately her major. The Montana State University student switched to civil engineering, with a structural emphasis, after numerous site visits and some quick convincing on behalf of Principal Emeritus Tom Beaudette.
Upon earning her degree, Samantha returned to DCI as a full-time employee. Since then, she’s worked her way up from Project Engineer to Project Manager, Senior PM and now Associate. In addition to her work on residential and several K-12 and higher education projects, her primary focus has been renovation and historic preservations. While some engineers identify their dream project location as a place they haven’t yet worked, Samantha is truly living the dream, as she has helped restore several structures in Yellowstone National Park.
If you weren’t an engineer, what would you be?
I’d like to think I would be a physician. I think I would enjoy the problem solving with the added aspect of directly helping others and improving their quality of life.
What is your favorite thing about the DCI work environment?
The open, collaborative nature of our firm and the people who work here. I truly enjoy collaborating with my colleagues every day.
