West Chester University’s College of Business and Public Management is a five-story building with large auditoriums and classrooms on the first two floors, and breakout rooms, collaboration spaces and faculty offices on its upper floors. Students enter the 90,000-sf building through the gothic stone double-archway and make their way to class by climbing a monumental steel staircase by the three-story glass walls on the south entrance. Faculty and administrators have new offices on the building upper levels, and everyone can access the building’s green roof.
The building is LEED Gold Certified, a first for WCU. The certification was awarded for the school’s low energy use, water saving capabilities and the materials used in its construction. DCI coordinated with the contractor and architect to design the most cost efficient and sustainable steel framing for the school after the original design had to be changed due to the high water table at the site.
