For over 10 years, DCI has performed structural engineering services on projects at the Wilmington Friends School. These projects ranged over the years from new additions, to renovations, to resurrecting the school’s performing arts center after a fire. Most of these projects involved working with architects Voith & MacTavish and contractor EDiS, but one involved working with architects at DIGSAU and builders from Nowland Associates. For each project, DCI brings our commitment to service, innovation and value, like when the school wanted to redo their lower school and place it closer to the upper school. DCI drafted schematics so that both schools could share their resources and spaces, which meant Wilmington Friends School could lower their operational costs once the project was finished.
I love to solve problems – Sudoku puzzles, crosswords, cryptograms, brain teasers. Then, there’s combining problem solving with math, drawings and construction that is our trade by nature. By never settling for ‘cookie cutter’ solutions, but instead developing tailored engineering designs specific to each project… well, that makes for a very rewarding career.”
